With foodservice trends shifting like lightning, flexible design (page 46) has never been more important in helping today’s operators plan for the unknown.
And for those of you that find this article on flexible foodservice design helpful, don’t forget that FE&S has a sister publication — restaurant development + design — that covers all topics surrounding remodeling and building new restaurants. If you happen to work in the restaurant design space as a consultant, design-build dealer, designer or operator, rd+d is for you. We sometimes take for granted that any reader of FE&S is automatically aware of rd+d, and yet, we are sometimes surprised to learn that this isn’t always the case.
Last month at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., each of these sister publications won three national awards for excellence from the American Society of Business Publication Editors. Our own editorial director, Joe Carbonara, won a National Gold for his company profile of last year’s 2017 Dealer of the Year, Johnson-Lancaster and Associates. Senior Contributing Editor Dana Tanyeri was awarded a National Gold for her feature story on 2017 DSR of the Year Luke Green. And, Contributing Editor Donna Boss was awarded a National Bronze for her outstanding work on the Facility Design Project of the Month department in 2017.
On the rd+d side, Editor in Chief Rebecca Kilbreath and team brought home three national awards. The blog, One Problem, Three Solutions, contributed by renowned restaurant designer Steve Starr, won a National Bronze award.
Assistant Art Director Eric Uhl earned his first-ever national award with a Bronze for his design of the article 6 Ways to get Expensive Looks for Less. And perhaps most exciting of all because it was a complete team effort, rd+d earned a top 10 award in the category of Cross-Platform Package of the Year for the 2017 Tour the Design Trends. In addition to the in-person event, this included coverage both in print, online and via social media. This award provides a great example of the way we at Zoomba Group look to integrate our content across multiple platforms.
