Why it Won

Our judges were impressed with how the tabletop caters to its clientele in a way that’s functional and looks great. Two things surprised our judges: the use of red plates, which has been infrequent of late, and the two-handled mug, which makes it easier for seniors to grip. And the lip on the plate makes it easier for seniors to get their food.

First Place (tie): Palm Grill at Shell Point Retirement Community, Ft. Myers, Fla.

Why it Won

The project team did a good job of creating and updated a more upscale tabletop without going too far. If you were a resident there, you would feel like you are having a nice restaurant experience. This tabletop is plain, yet elegant. There’s lots of variety in the shapes, which creates visual appeal. The blue napkin, colored glassware and menu holder add color to the tabletop and connect it to the entire room. The brush finish of the accessories is a nice touch, too.
