“This industry needs fact-based, unbiased information from a trusted source to operate effectively.”
What a pleasure it is to address you once again as the publisher of Foodservice Equipment & Supplies.
I would like to begin by offering my heartfelt thanks to everyone who attended this year's Dealer of the Year and Industry Awards Gala in Chicago. All of us associated with the magazine are keenly aware of the practical challenges posed by the abrupt cancellation of the event, followed, in short order, by the concerted effort to put it back on track. Together with our event sponsors, we felt compelled to do all that we could to make sure the event moved forward, to ensure that all of FE&S' 2010 award winners would receive the recognition they so richly deserve. We were pleased to give them the chance to celebrate their success and that of the industry with their peers during this special evening. I am sure you will enjoy reading about their remarkable achievements and our DOY event in this special double issue of the magazine.
It is always moving to experience firsthand the sincere appreciation expressed by those receiving FE&S' time-honored awards, and this year was no exception. We have tried to capture the evening's excitement by posting the touching acceptance speeches from this year's event on our website: www.fesmag.com.
For those of you who were unable to attend, and for those of you who believe that industry awards and award ceremonies are not important, I encourage you to take a moment and listen to their words. You might be pleasantly surprised and even persuaded to think about these events differently.
While you're there, I also invite you to take a minute to tour the new www.fesmag.com. We've taken the opportunity to completely rethink and rebuild our website, and we're unabashedly proud of the results. We hope that you will find it to be smart, efficient and informative.
We have big plans for FE&S as we move into the newest chapter in the history of this venerable 63-year-old brand. Some of the plans are small and easily noticeable, like
the improvements in our paper stock and the magazine's size. Others will be less immediately apparent but of more lasting consequence. Under the capable leadership of Joe Carbonara, editor in chief, we intend to step up our efforts with regard to proprietary research. In listening to our readers and our advertisers, we believe the industry is looking for even more quantitative research that drills down to specific actionable data, and we intend to provide it.
If all of us have learned one lesson in recent years, it is that change is among our most consistent certainties. As the speed and volume of information grows exponentially, the problem that we all face becomes sorting through the noise and identifying what is truly important. This industry needs fact-based, unbiased information from a trusted source to operate effectively, and the professionals within foodservice equipment and supplies who are best able to access that critical information will enjoy a competitive advantage.
At FE&S, we want to continue to be the primary, must-read source for that information in print, online and in person.
