Underbar Refrigeration

Underbar refrigeration is often used in the front-of-house bar area and designed for bottled beverages.

These units can have multiple configurations, including between one and four doors, drawers or slide tops.

Underbar refrigerators range in size from 24, 36, 48, 60 to 72 inches long, with depths ranging from 24 to 34 inches. The smallest footprint available is usually 24 inches-by-24 inches. This equipment is 34 inches high or less for use under counters.

A typical one-door cooler has 24-inch-wide doors, a double-door cooler is 48 inches wide and units are available with doors that are 20 inches wide for more narrow spaces. Low profile models provide additional storage space between the countertop and top of the cooler.

Most vertical door underbar refrigerators have either self-contained or remote condenser systems. With remote designs, the condenser is located outside the cabinet to remove heat from the area where the cooler is located.

In terms of cleaning and maintenance, the evaporator condenser coils need to be kept clear of dust and other debris. This system should be checked either weekly or monthly and brushed out by the operator. The fan motors and filter media also should be cleaned regularly. Gaskets should be cleaned with soap and water weekly or at least monthly.

The service life for underbar refrigeration is between 10 and 15 years.
