Service Tips: FRP Panels

Many kitchens rely on fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP) panels for their kitchen walls. Not only are these often cheaper than tile, they’re generally easier to clean and maintain. That doesn’t mean FRP panels are a zero-maintenance item, though.

Here are a few tips to keep your FRP panels clean and functional.

  • Clean FRP panels on a regular basis. Many manufacturers recommend weekly cleanings.
  • Be careful of the cleaning solution you select for FRP panels. Some stronger cleaners contain chemicals that can damage the panels. In addition, abrasive cleaners can scratch and damage a panel, leaving grooves that catch dirt.
  • Most manufacturers recommend cleaning with soap, water and a sponge or cloth. Other options, depending on the panel’s maker, include steam cleaning or using a pressure washer.
  • After cleaning with a detergent or soap, be sure to rinse the panels thoroughly. If not rinsed, a film can develop on the panels that will make them appear dull or stained.
