Foodservice Equipment & Supplies magazine named food4VOLS the winner of its 2024 Kitchen Storage Makeover contest.
Created by Knoxville’s Culinary Institute at the University of Tennessee, the mission of food4VOLS centers on eliminating hunger and food waste on campus. In partnership with Vol Dining, the food recovery program works to collect excess prepared food from outlets on campus and then transform the food into ready-to-heat and ready-to-eat meals distributed on campus and in the community.
“We are still learning as we go,” said Tyler White, of the two-year-old food4VOLS program. He spearheads food4VOLS in addition to his role as assistant professor of practice, UT Culinary Institute. “We look forward to improving our space and continuing to support our mission.”
As the winner of the FE&S Kitchen Storage Makeover contest, the facility will receive a makeover to build greater efficiency into the organization. FE&S will feature all the details in an upcoming issue.
Special thanks to the following judges who reviewed more than 60 submissions before selecting the winner of the FE&S Kitchen Storage Makeover: Jonathan Nikiel, Reitano Design Group; Kenneth Patronski, Cini-Little; and Anne Gadon Rodriguez, CFSP, Zepole.
