Sales of foodservice equipment and supplies increased 14.3% in the second quarter of 2022, per the Business Barometer published by the Manufacturers’ Agents Association for the Foodservice Industry.
This represents a 0.9% decline from the first quarter of 2021. Still, despite that slight decline, this growth rate remains well ahead of the industry’s more typical growth rate, which generally falls into the 1% to 5% range over the long run, per MAFSI.
Reps project an 11.5% sales increase for the third quarter of 2022.
Looking at the second quarter results by product category, tabletop sales increased 15.5%, equipment 14.8%, supplies 13.3% and furniture 7.1%.
By region, Canada posted sales growth of 17.9, the Northeast 15.2%, the Midwest 14.2%, the West 12.9% and the South 10.3%.
Looking at quoting activity, 47% of reps report an increase in the second quarter compared to the first quarter. And 39% of reps reported no change while 14% reported a decline in this area.
With respect to consultant activity, 61% of reps report no change between the first and second quarters, while 23% said there was increased activity in this area and 16% reported a decline.
