FAT Brands Sweetens Portfolio with Toll House Café Deal

Apparently, multiconcept operator FAT Brands has a sweet tooth as the company has struck a deal to acquire the 85 franchised chain of stores known as Nestlé Toll House Café by Chip from Crest Foods. As part of the deal, FAT Brands will rebrand the locations as Great American Cookies, which is one of its portfolio brands.

“These stores will fold seamlessly into our Quick-Service Division and provide us the opportunity to increase the capacity of our manufacturing business, a key growth objective,” said FAT Brands CEO Andy Wiederhorn. “To date, acquisitions have been a strong growth vehicle for FAT Brands, and we anticipate the combination of our production and distribution facility and scale to increase the profitability of the franchisees that are joining us in this acquisition.”

Over the past year, FAT Brands has been very active in terms of making acquisitions. In November 2021 FAT Brands acquired Fazoli’s, a quick-service chain with an Italian chain that had 200 units at the time. Prior to that, in September, FAT Brands acquired Twin Peaks, a polished casual, sports-oriented chain. And in June 2021 FAT Brands purchased Global Franchise Group, which franchises and operates a portfolio of five quick-service restaurant concepts, including Round Table Pizza, Great American Cookies, Hot Dog on a Stick, Marble Slab Creamery and Pretzelmaker, from Serruya Private Equity and Lion Capital.
