Remembering Freddy Simon of Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers

Frederick “Freddy” Simon, co-founder and namesake of Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers died on Oct. 25, 2020. He was 95 years old.

He spent 55 years in the hospitality industry before starting Freddy’s along with his sons Bill and Randy, and Scott Redler. Freddy opened the first Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers restaurant in 2002 in Wichita, Kan.

The youngest of nine children, Freddy grew up in Kansas and joined the U.S. Army in 1943, where he was assigned to the First Cavalry Division. While serving in the Pacific during World War II, Freddy earned the Purple Heart for injuries sustained, as well as a Bronze Star for valor.
