The commercial refrigeration manufacturer is the first in its category to receive the honor.
True Manufacturing, a manufacturer of commercial refrigeration, was awarded the U.S. Department of Environmental Protection's (EPA) 2016 ENERGY STAR Emerging Technology Award: Innovative Refrigerant Systems.
An ENERGY STAR Emerging Technology award can be given to any company's products, regardless if they are ENERGY STAR qualified. Winners are selected at the discretion of the EPA. The award seeks to recognize technology that is innovative but not widely adopted, according to a representative for ENERGY STAR. In this case, the award was given for the first time in the refrigerant category and True is the first commercial manufacturer to earn it, with 42 products qualifying all at once—a first for the award, according to Energy Star.
True's winning products moved from using common hydrofluorocarbon refrigerants to EPA-approved hydrocarbon refrigerants. "We felt the new rules being pushed by the EPA and the Department of Energy would gain traction, become real, and be effective," says John Ebenroth, National Director of Sales and Marketing at True Manufacturing. "We're going to be able to hold the EPA levels without sacrificing food safety."
