An interview with William York, Product Manager, Manitowoc Ice
Tell me about Manitowoc Ice.
William York: Manitowoc Ice machines are built for precision and performance, and everything we do is for our customers. We focus on three things: advanced sanitation for easy cleaning and food safety, designing energy-efficient systems that reduce environmental impact, and building durable machines that minimize maintenance. The result? Reliable equipment that delivers long-term value and helps operators cut downtime and total cost of ownership.

What do customers expect from Manitowoc Ice?
WY: Customers want confidence in their investment. They expect machines that are reliable, easy to maintain and deliver consistent ice quality. Energy efficiency is a big priority, too, both for cost savings and sustainability. And, of course, they want user-friendly designs that make operation and cleaning simple.
When operators choose an ice machine, what drives that decision?
WY: Operators think beyond the purchase price. They’re asking: How easy is this machine to keep clean? Will it help me meet food safety standards without extra labor? How much will it cost to run overtime? For restaurants especially, total cost of ownership often outweighs the initial price tag. That’s why features that save water and energy, reduce maintenance and simplify cleaning are so important.
What’s new and exciting?
WY: We are continuing to roll out a more environmentally friendly solution that meets global standards without sacrificing performance. We’re also upgrading operating systems to reduce water use and lower utility costs. In addition, we’re rolling out an app for our Indigo NXT machines, giving operators Bluetooth monitoring and control right from their phone.
