Midea Helps Operators Meet Today’s Challenges

COVID-19 has added other concerns, such as eliminating any potential for cross-contamination from frequently touched surfaces. New technology from Midea is helping operators address these potential food safety issues.

midea Scan and Go Pic from Ad HRThe Scan&Go™ microwave oven reduces customer touch points and cooks food perfectly by using UPC or QR codes. The unique Scan&Go™ microwave oven not only delivers 1,200 watts of cooking power, but its innovative infrared scanning system also helps reduce customer touchpoints on equipment surfaces. The customer simply passes the UPC or QR code on a packaged food product through the door of the oven, and the Scan&Go™ does the rest. It automatically programs the power and cook time in stages to properly cook the product. Closing the oven door begins the cooking process. There’s no setting of time or power, thus lessening the chance of cross-contamination.

The customer is assured of perfect cooking every time because “Midea has a team of culinary applications professionals who work with food companies and their chefs to tailor the heating of their foods to the best specifications,” says Ken Megarr, MS, CCC, Director of Culinary Applications for Midea. “When that barcode is scanned, the food comes out as the manufacturer has specified.”

The Scan&Go™ microwave is a perfect fit for any operation that needs quick, consistent microwave cooking or re-thermalization, such as c-stores, vending applications or B&I.

An Efficient Multitasker

With kitchens getting smaller, it’s critical that a piece of equipment can multitask efficiently. That’s why Midea created the G1 FlashChef™ High Speed Oven. It produces delicious food consistently by using microwave, convection or a combination of both using high-speed impinged air.

The heart of the G1 oven is its 8-inch, high-resolution display which combines artificial intelligence and touch-sensitive technology to ensure precise cooking times and temperatures. The G1 comes preprogrammed with over 50 typical recipes in five different categories. This preprogramming assures that dishes come out the same way, no matter who may be cooking them.

Its proprietary airflow technology allows for consistent browning of the product and, by using impingement, food can cook up to 20 times faster than in conventional ovens.

The G1 was designed specifically to not have “an industrial or commercial look and feel to it,” says Megarr. It has an attractive stainless-steel exterior with molded high-temp polymer accents. “The design makes it an appropriate piece of equipment for open or display kitchen setups.”

The oven’s ease of operation also makes it suitable for facilities that might not have a chef on-premises, such as sandwich shops, coffee shops or even hotels. Dishes can be prepared in advance and, with the G1’s high-speed capabilities, they’re ready to eat in just minutes (or even seconds!). Since the oven is so easy to operate, almost any staff member can now be part of the culinary team, thus saving labor costs.

The Scan&Go™ microwave and the G1 FlashChef™ High-Speed Oven are just two of the ways that Midea is helping operators cope with today’s challenges.
