In a deal valued at $10.5 million, multiconcept operator FAT Brands will acquire Homestyle Dining, parent company to the Ponderosa Steakhouse and Bonanza restaurant chains. FAT Brands additionally announced plans to go public.

Freeman Spogli & Co. has acquired Cafe Rio, a fast-casual Mexican restaurant company. Cafe Rio’s existing management team will continue to lead the company and will retain an equity stake in the business.

Mark Humenansky joined American Metalcraft, serving as southeast regional sales manager. American Metalcraft’s sales team now divides along four geographic regions.
Rippe Associates Adds to its C&U Team
Rippe Associates added Darren Peterson to its college and university team. A 23-year veteran of the foodservice industry, he comes to Rippe Associates from North Dakota State University, where he served as director of dining.

Preferred Marketing Group added Fred Macdonald to its outside sales team. Macdonald will serve as a business development representative in the California-based independent manufacturers’ rep firm’s San Diego office.
Brewer to Become Group President and COO for Starbucks
Rosalind Brewer will become group president and chief operating officer for Starbucks Corp., effective Oct. 2. Brewer is the former president and CEO of Sam’s Club and her background includes 22 years with Kimberly Clark.
