A Senior Living Facility's Design Redux

1MarketPlaceGrilleThe MarketPlace Grille at Longwood at Oakmont.A complete gut of The MarketPlace Grille at Longwood at Oakmont, a senior care facility in Verona, Pa., eliminated a formal dining area to make room for a scatter-station system offering a variety of food choices. Choices now include Neapolitan-style pizza, grilled fish, turkey burgers, entrees like beef medallions, plus soup and fresh salads, and made-to-order deli options.

A new rapid-cook oven can warm proteins in minutes for topping a salad or warm breads during service. At a live action station, Cura Executive Chef Christian Olson cooks food prepared-to-order in front of the staff and the residents who dine there, spanning from independent, assisted and skilled.

2MarketPlaceGrill2Coffee/retail area offerings include cappuccinos, smoothies and breakfast sandwiches. The newly remodeled servery also features a robust coffee/retail area, Perk’d Coffee Bar, with an on-site barista who makes cappuccinos, smoothies, and milkshakes. Additional options include breakfast sandwiches, bagels and English muffins, plus grab-and-go offerings such as fresh fruit, yogurt, bottled beverages and a selection of pastries.

As far as the look of the space, District Manager Dea Tomsic says the focus became creating a contemporary design with sleek glass tile and canister lighting. Ample space between the stations and in the dining room makes room for residents’ scooters and walkers.
