How to Know When to Replace a Smoker

Smokers can last as long as 50 years, but the average service life of these units is about a decade. Here are a few signs that it is time to replace a smoker.

There are a number of signs that may signify a smoker needs to be replaced.

Damaged metal: Smoke is extremely corrosive. If there is evidence that the unit's metal has been compromised over time, the equipment has reached the end of its service life.

Smoke outside the unit: If there is evidence of smoke exiting the unit during use, it may be compromised. This may indicate that a new smoker is needed.

Mechanical component failure: Although smoker parts can be replaced 90 percent of the time, excessive breakdowns can be costly. If repair costs begin adding up, and the unit is older or showing signs of wear, it should be put out of service.

Quality issues: If the equipment is not cooking properly, this may be a sign that the heating elements may be getting weak or failing. When product results are inconsistent, and repairs and/or modifications are not working, it is time to replace the smoker.
