SFM to Change Name

New name to reflect members' change in responsibilities.

In an attempt to address the evolving role of its current constituency and potentially broaden its membership base, the Society for Foodservice Management will become The Society for Hospitality and Foodservice Management. The new name takes place Oct. 1, 2013.

SFM's key member segments are the client liaisons and self-operators in business and industry foodservice. While foodservice remains central to their positions, in recent years many SFM members have seen their roles expand to include such hospitality-related functions such as vending, conference and events support, fitness centers, health and wellness and childcare.

"We want to keep our brand fresh, relevant and responsive for current members, new members and the industry at large," adds SFM President Mark Freeman. "We want to expand into new markets and members segments, to build on the talent and energy our members bring to the industry. And we want to assure that our current position as the primary resource for foodservice expertise in the B&I industry is augmented. It's an exciting new era of growth for the Society."
