Bernie Powers, the founder of B&G Restaurant Supply in Pittsfield, Mass., passed away Nov. 21. He was 65 years old.
Powers and Gloria, his wife, started B&G in 1985 out of a garage. Since then, the foodservice equipment and supplies dealership grew into a business that employs more than 35 people in two locations. In 2010 B&G generated more than $11 million in revenue, making it the 92nd largest dealer in the country, according to FE&S' 2011 Distribution Giants Study.
Powers is survived by his wife, Gloria; children Robert Powers and Tricia Powers Dambrauskas and their significant others; five grandchildren; and his two brothers.
A funeral service took place on Nov. 26.
Contributions may be made to the Bernie Powers Memorial Fund c/o Pittsfield Cooperative Bank, 70 South Street, Pittsfield. The fund will be used to help under-privileged children.
