Joseph Spina, PhD, CAE, announced his plans to retire from his post as executive director for the National Association of College and University Foodservice at the end of 2012. Spina, who has held the position since 1990, is only the second executive director in NACUFS history.
NACUFS plans to form a project team this fall to help identify Spina's successor.
Before joining NACUFS, Spina served as director of communications with the Foodservice Packaging Institute in Washington, D.C. He was recognized by NACUFS for his outstanding service to the association with the Richard Lichtenfelt Award in 1997.
Spina made the announcement during NACUFS' General Membership Assembly, which took place during its 2011 National Conference in Grapevine, Texas.
A project team will be formed this fall to begin the search for NACUFS' next executive director and regular updates will be sent to the association membership during the process.
