California Coffee Chain Gets New Owners

Upscale Los Angeles-based coffee roaster and cafe chain operator Caffe Luxxe was acquired by Sugarfina, a luxury candy boutique, in a 100% stock merger.

Founded in 2006, Caffe Luxxe leans into “approachable luxury,” offering premium coffee in what it describes as warm, community-focused cafes. Cafffe Luxxe has seven locations across California coastal communities, such as Malibu, Montecito, Manhattan Beach, Long Beach, Santa Monica and Brentwood. It also has plans to open a Culver City location in January and to continue expanding into other areas in the coming year. Caffe Luxxe also plans to rebuild its Pacific Palisades location, lost in the January fire.

Additionally, Caffe Luxxe operates an eCommerce site and subscription platform, complemented by wholesale distribution to cafes, restaurants, offices and boutique hotels, and most recently, an expansion into gourmet grocers and specialty stores.

As part of the integration, Caffe Luxxe will fold into the Sugarfina Corporation portfolio, streamlining core functions across human resources, legal, finance, digital marketing, e-commerce, and wholesale sales.

This is Sugarfina’s third acquisition of late. The company recently acquired BOXFOX and Candy Club.
