There’s a shakeup coming at the top of iconic Chicago pizza chain Giordano’s.
Longtime CEO Yorgo Koutsogiorgas will retire on December 9, 2024, and he will be replaced by Nick Scarpino, who will step down from his role as chief marketing officer for Portillo’s, a chain known for its Chicago-style hot dogs and Italian beef sandwiches.
Koutsogiorgas became Giordano’s CEO in 2011 and during his tenure the chain expanded outside of its core market in Illinois to nine other states, per a company release. Upon his retirement Koutsogiorgas will remain a member of the company’s board of directors and an advisor.
Scarpino brings 20 years of marketing expertise and 10 years of experience in the restaurant industry into this new role at Giordano’s. During his time at Portillo’s, Scarpino led the team behind the chain’s online ordering platform and guided the launch of delivery at all of its locations nationwide, per a release. He also oversees brand partnerships and served on the menu strategy team and real estate committee. Prior to joining Portillo's in 2015, he worked in digital advertising leadership roles at Google.
