Add sweetgreen to a rapidly growing list of restaurant chains testing new formats with the hopes of cashing in on the rapidly growing off-premises business. The company opened what it describes as a “sweetlane” in Schaumburg, Ill.
Customers order through the sweetgreen app or via its website and choose “sweetlane” as their desired way of receiving their food. Then customers pull up to the location’s drive-thru lane to receive their food.
In addition, sweetgreen has found a way to transition some of its in-store brand experience to this new format. As they wait to receive, guests can observe team members preparing orders with fresh ingredients through a round observation window, similar to what they might do inside the restaurant. Dine-in and pickup inside the restaurant will also be available, per a company release.
Other design elements in this freestanding building include a continuous green dip around the building, a large-scale mural by local Chicago artist Cody Hudson and architectural awning details.
