The National Association of College & University Food Services recognized the accomplishments of four member institutions with the Grand Prizes from its 2022 Loyal E. Horton Dining Awards. NACUFS also presented another member with its Grand Prize Sustainability Award.
The grand prize winners for the 2022 Loyal E. Horton Dining Awards are:
- Residential Dining Facility Grand Prize: Tufts University for Fresh at Carmichael. This award celebrates any all-you-care-to-eat residential dining facility, regardless of meal plan type.
- Residential Dining – Special Event Grand Prize: Virginia Tech for the Chili Challenge. This award honors a unique event that takes place outside of a typical dining program, such as a festival, holiday celebration, or recognition.
- Retail Sales – Single Concept/Multiple Concepts/Marketplace Grand Prize: University of Richmond for Organic Krush. This award recognizes a retail location on campus that has innovative features and techniques.
- Catering – Online Menu Grand Prize: University of North Texas for Verde Catering. This award recognizes a distinct, special menu used for catered occasions on campus.
The Sustainability Awards recognize leadership in promoting and implementing environmental sustainability related to collegiate dining operations. The awards celebrate the pivotal role dining services have in a campus' overall environmental sustainability and social responsibility goals. The grand prize winner is the University of Rhode Island for Free Farmers Market.
