Capriotti's Sandwich Shop has acquired Wing Zone, a fast-casual chicken wing concept with 31 locations in North America and 36 abroad. The deal will create a company that will close 2020 with more than $100 million in sales system wide, per a release announcing the acquisition. Both Capriotti’s and Wing Zone are franchise-based concepts.
With 115 units systemwide and another 210 in development, Capriotti’s hopes to grow to more than 500 locations by 2025. In doing so the fast-casual sandwich chain undoubtedly will look to pass along its appetite for growth to Wing Zone. “We look forward to leveraging our expertise in franchising, operational excellence and technology with Wing Zone's off-premises experience to help both brands continue to grow,” says Ashley Morris, CEO of Capriotti’s and, now, Wing Zone.
Indeed, the deal marks a fast start to the year for Capriotti’s, which is coming off an eventful 2020. Capriotti’s launched its first ghost kitchen locations in California; a trio of virtual restaurant concepts focusing on vegetarian, Philly cheesesteak and turkey-centric menus and opened 18 new units.
