Concessionaire Aramark and the New York Mets developed a fully automated concessions operation at New York’s Citi Field that integrates biometric and artificial intelligence related technologies.
Walk Thru Bru incorporates technology from a biometric identity program and a self-checkout kiosk that uses artificial intelligence to scan multiple items at once. As part of this pilot program, fans can grab snacks and beverages, place the items on the self-checkout kiosk for scanning and then place their fingers on the fingerprint reader to complete the transaction with a single touch. The fingerprint links to a credit card on file as part of the customer’s enrollment in the biometric security program. When the purchase includes an alcoholic beverage, the biometric platform simultaneously verifies that the individual is of legal drinking age before completing the transaction.
“Enhancing the game experience for our fans remains a priority, and this innovative solution will help further their experience while at Citi Field,” said Lou DePaoli, Mets executive vice president and chief revenue officer. “We appreciate the innovation, flexibility and partnership which will allow us to be the first ballpark utilizing these digital technologies across the ticketing, security, and concession platforms for our fans.”
