Longtime executive replaces the retiring Fowler for the buffet chain.
Golden Corral promoted Lance Trenary to president and chief executive officer from chief operating officer. He takes over for the retiring Ted Fowler, who was with Golden Corral since 1989.
Trenary started in his family's restaurant business washing dishes at an early age and moved up the ranks at Golden Corral the last 29 years. He becomes Golden Corral's third CEO since James Maynard founded the company in 1973.
In his new role, Trenary will continue to review the chain's menu and restaurant design as well as explore franchising outside the U.S. "It's an exciting time to take the reins as we look to expand internationally," Trenary said. "We're confident our buffet concept will become a big international hit."
Golden Corral has 501 locations, including 400 franchisee-owned restaurants, in 41 states.
