Introducing Hoshizaki’s Award-Winning Water Dispenser

A Q&A with Sally Ray, marketing manager, Hoshizaki America, Inc.

 Q. What was the goal with Hoshizaki’s MODWater dispenser?

Sally Ray: Hoshizaki’s main goal is to provide customers with a variety of water choices. MODwater The new MODWater by Hoshizaki – a 2019 KI Award recipient – dispenses chilled, sparkling, hot and alkaline water on demand in a single, compact and efficient unit.dispenses a selection of water in a convenient, cost efficient and fun water station – replacing the traditional water cooler or water bottles.

Equally important is to provide sustainable water dispensing and reduce pollution impacting our environment. We want to be a solution for anyone wanting to replace single use plastic water bottles and non-biodegradable foam cups. Many businesses and restaurant operators are making a conscious decision to go green. This innovative dispenser line offers the customer choices in an environmentally friendly way.

Q.What other issues does the MODWater dispenser address?

SR: Efficiency – space, logistics, labor, and other added costs. Our dispenser is small and compact, doesn’t require delivery or storage, and labor requirements are non-existent. Plus, it has some truly unique features!

Q. Describe the dispenser’s technology.

SR: The patent-pending technology for the in-line carbonator which creates the sparkling water is truly unique. Using only a CO2 tank with the MODwater unit, no carbonator tank or water pump is needed. To have all four options of chilled, sparkling, hot and alkaline water on demand in a single, compact and efficient unit puts us at an advantage in the water dispenser market.

Q. How does this dispenser work?

SR: The LED touch button display is easy to use and the dispensing area allows for almost any type of bottle, cup or tumbler. MODWater dispenses up to 20 gallons of sparkling or chilled water per hour as well as hot and alkaline water.

Q. What type of applications are these dispensers best suited for?

SR: Although our official launch in June will focus on the noncommercial B&I market, this line is ideal for any aspect of the foodservice industry looking to serve chilled, sparkling, alkaline water, or a hot beverage made from water, such as tea or hot chocolate. The MODWater dispenser eliminates the need for multiple decanters.

Q. Is there a cost savings with these systems?

SR: Absolutely, the MODwater dispenser is a one-time purchase. Depending on whether you’re replacing bottled water or large cooler type dispensers, Hoshizaki can calculate a cost reduction.

Q. Where can these dispensers be placed?

SR: The MODWater dispenser is ADA compliant when placed on a stand or Hoshizaki ice machine. The other option is to put it on a countertop.

Q. Hoshizaki’s MODWater dispenser is the first of its kind, correct?

SR: In May 2019, Hoshizaki received the Kitchen Innovation (KI) Award by the National Restaurant Association for this unique dispenser. In fact, this marked Hoshizaki’s second consecutive KI Award – our KMEdge Ice Machine was recognized in 2018. The prestigious recognition honors progressive new equipment that increases efficiencies and productivity. KI Award recipients are chosen by an independent panel of judges comprised of industry leaders and internationally-recognized food facility consultants, multi-unit executives and design experts. This is further proof that not only is the dispenser unique, but it also is a valuable addition to the foodservice equipment industry.
