Service Tips: Blast Chillers

Blast chillers are a key piece of equipment for industrial operations that want to cook, then store, large quantities of food. They’re also big-ticket items that operators should be careful with to protect their investments.

  • Many blast chillers use air filters to protect their coils. Clean these filters frequently, and service technicians should come out for regular planned maintenance for deeper cleanings.
  • Units often have touch screen controls. These interfaces can glitch if they’re pressed too hard. Train staff to use a light touch.
  • Blast chillers maintain a cool chamber even when not in use. Unfortunately staff often leave their doors open between cycles. This can cause a unit to overwork, leading to maintenance problems. Make sure a blast chiller’s door is closed at all times.
  • Simple cleaning is important for blast chillers. Like any piece of cold equipment, a blast chiller needs good gaskets and door hinges. Keep an eye on their condition and have them replaced if they’re damaged.
