Razzoo’s to sell Tricky Fish Concept

As part of an internal sale, casual dining chain Razzoo’s Cajun Cafe will divest its Tricky Fish restaurant concept.

Razzoo’s launched Tricky Fish in 2016 as a small-format, fast-casual extension inspired by the chain’s Tricky Fish menu item. Since that time Tricky Fish opened 2 restaurants, while Razzoo’s now includes 22 restaurant locations spread across Texas, Oklahoma and North Carolina.

The decision to separate the two restaurant concepts was in response to the uneven speed of growth between them that was not ideal for pursuing new markets going forward, per a release announcing the deal. The transaction will close sometime in late November 2019.

“Razzoo’s is ready to take on the rest of the country,” said Jeff Powell, company CEO. ”We’ve had ample time to build this brand, perfect operations, and create a solid marketing strategy. Tricky Fish is an exciting newer concept that has been very well received… so much so that it does not need to function solely as an extension of another brand. We agreed neither brand should miss out on opportunities despite being in such different places. Divestment made the most sense, allowing each brand its best shot at success.”

Chris Degan will own Tricky Fish and serve as the chain’s CEO. Degan previously served as president of Razzoo’s and led Tricky Fish’s development.
