NSF International Recognizes Corby’s Contributions to Food Safety

NSF International presented Joe Corby with its Food Safety Leadership Award, which recognizes individuals and organizations for real and lasting improvements in food safety. Corby is senior advisor to the Association of Food & Drug Officials.

“During his 47-year career in food safety regulation, Joe made significant contributions to the food industry by his willingness to reach across the aisle and collaborate with industry, academia and consumer groups,” said Kevan P. Lawlor, president and CEO of NSF International. “He has been an outspoken advocate for the advancement of a nationally integrated food safety system and continues to work with numerous groups and associations in support of this cause.”

Corby began his career at the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets, where he worked for 37 years serving as director of the Division of Food Safety and Inspection before leaving in 2008. He then served as the executive director for the Association of Food & Drug Officials (AFDO) before retiring in 2018. He currently is a senior advisor for AFDO. Corby is an instructor for the International Food Protection Training Institute, the National Environmental Health Association (NEHA) and the University of Tennessee.

“Through the years, Joe has mentored and taught hundreds of food safety professionals. His example is sure to make a lasting impact on the future of food safety,” Lawlor adds.
