Equipment and Supplies Sales Increase 5.1 Percent in the Second Quarter

MAFSI members project a 4.3 percent sales increase in the third quarter.

During the second quarter of 2015, sales of foodservice equipment and supplies grew 5.1 percent more than the same time frame in the previous year, according to the Manufacturers' Agents Association for the Foodservice Industry's (MAFSI) Business Barometer. This quarterly survey of MAFSI members projects foodservice equipment and supplies sales will grow 4.3 percent in the third quarter of 2015.

On a regional basis, during the second quarter the West and Midwest experienced sales increases of 6.2 percent, while the South grew by 5.1 percent, the Northeast grew by 3.0 percent and Canada by 2.9 percent. Looking at sales by product type, equipment experienced a 5.4 percent increase, tabletop 4.8 percent, supplies 4.3 percent, and furniture by 2.5 percent. Within the equipment category, high growth areas included refrigeration/ice machines, cooking equipment and food prep equipment.

Looking ahead, 39 percent of the participating MAFSI members report more consultant activity, which is down 10 points from the previous quarter. And 51 percent of reps report they are quoting more, which is down 7 percent from the previous quarter.
