Although there is no Energy Star rating for back bar refrigeration at the moment, foodservice operators can still purchase energy efficient units to meet their needs – it will just require some homework on tier part.
For example, the operator should look at the amperage and wattage draws on the spec sheets to see how much energy the unit uses and ask what contributes to these consumption levels. Doing so will allow the operator to make more detailed and factual comparison.
Also, a growing number of manufacturers are turning toward LED lighting in their units to help meet government standards for energy consumption. LED lights tend to last for long periods of time and consume less energy than other options.
