Thompson Promoted to Top Chef at Raleigh Renaissance
Hotel operator Concord Hospitality Enterprises promoted Dean Thompson to executive chef of its Renaissance Raleigh Hotel, in Raleigh, N.C. Previously, Thompson served as the hotel’s executive sous chef under Dean Wendel, Concord’s recently appointed corporate director of food and beverage.

Great Lakes Hotel Supply Opens New Culinary Center
Great Lakes Hotel Supply Company, a Mich.-based foodservice equipment and supplies dealer, has opened a multi-use facility that will help operators to design, build, test and launch a fully equipped commercial kitchen. Known as the Great Lakes Culinary Center, the Southfield, Mich., facility also features an interactive demonstration classroom, multimedia learning center, and space for holding private parties and special events for up 100 guests.
Don’t Let Menu Innovation Detract from Customer Service
There has been quite a bit written about the impact of menu innovation on customer service of late. For example, the latest drive-thru study by QSR Magazine shows a degradation of service by many concepts, including longtime industry leader Chick-fil-a, which has experienced a negative impact on peak throughput. The suggestion is that new menu options have impacted speed of service for a number of concepts.

Chris Yungbluth has joined Star Manufacturing’s sales team. In his new role as director of sales for the Star Group, Yungbluth is responsible for leading sales initiatives and strategy in the Midwest Region for commercial foodservice brands Star, Holman and Toastmaster.
