This Week In Foodservice: NRA’s February Restaurant Performance Index Fell in February but Operators Still Optimistic
The NRA has reported that their Restaurant Performance Index dropped 0.8 percent to 99.9 in February. The main culprit was the Current Situation Index, which declined 1.4 to 98.3 from January’s reading. Traffic fell as did same store sales. This was the first decline in same store sales in 21 months. Given February data from other sources, such as KnappTrack, the fall in the Current Situation Index is not a surprise.
EMK Names New President and CEO
John Andrews-Anagnostaras was named president and CEO of Emergency Mobile Kitchens LLC (EMK), a manufacturer of foodservice trucks, trailers and modular equipment for the hospital industry. He replaces Paul Helbert, the company’s founder, who will continue with the company in a sales and business development capacity.

NRA 2013 Operator Innovations Awards Finalists Announced
The National Restaurant Association has announced three finalists in each of its five categories for the 2013 Operator Innovations Awards. A panel of independent judges selected the finalists for the awards that address food safety, health & nutrition, menu development, sustainability and technology. The NRA will announce the winners during a special event on May 18 during its annual trade show in Chicago.

RPI Falls Below 100 as Sales and Traffic Decline
The National Restaurant Association’s Restaurant Performance Index (RPI) checked in at 99.9 in February, down 0.8 from January. February represented the fourth time in the last five months that the RPI stood below 100, which signifies contraction in the index of key industry indicators.
