Foodservice Equipment and Supplies Sales Increase 3+ Percent in Q3

   

In the third quarter of 2016 sales of foodservice equipment and supplies grew 3.6 percent overall, according to the Manufacturers’ Agents Association for the Foodservice Industry’s Business Barometer. This was 0.6 percent less than what MAFSI members forecasted and less than the growth recorded in the first and second quarter, which recorded growth rates of 4.9 and 4.8 percent.

By product type, sales of foodservice equipment grew by 3.9 percent, supplies and furniture both grew by 3.2 percent and tabletop by 2.6 percent. By region, third quarter sales increased by 4.3 percent in the Northeast, 4.0 percent in the South, 3.9 percent in the West, 3.5 percent in the Midwest and 1.2 percent for Canada.

Looking ahead to the fourth quarter of 2016, reps forecast a 3.6 percent sales increase. Forty five percent of reps report increased quoting activity, down 3 percent from the second quarter. And 37 percent of reps report increased consultant activity, down 8 percent from the second quarter.

For all of 2017, MAFSI members project sales will increase 4.4 percent.
