Chain Operating Report for Sept. 30

Restaurant chains making headlines this week include Bennigan’s, Del Frisco’s Restaurant Group, Dog Haus, Dunkin’ Donuts and Fazoli’s.

Benningan’s opened a location in Katy, Texas. The casual dining chain now has more than 150 restaurants open or under contract worldwide.

Del Frisco's Restaurant Group, Inc. opened a Del Frisco's Grille location in North Bethesda, Maryland. This marks the 14th Del Frisco's Grille across the country, and the 44th restaurant overall for Del Frisco's Restaurant Group, which also owns and operates 11 Del Frisco Double Eagle and 19 Sullivan's Steakhouse locations.

Dog Haus, a Southern California fast-casual hot dog concept, will open a restaurant in West Covina and Santa Ana. These units will mark the chain’s first locations outside of its hometown of Pasadena. The 4-unit chain reports having roughly 70 restaurants planned across California, Colorado, Utah and Arizona in its development pipeline.

Dunkin’ Donuts is recruiting franchisees in Minnesota with an emphasis on Minneapolis and Mankato. The quick-service restaurant concept plans to open seven freestanding Dunkin’ Donuts locations over the next several years in the greater Duluth area.

The Egg & I Restaurants opened a restaurant in Henderson, Tenn. The breakfast and lunch concept now has 106 locations system wide.

Fazoli’s reported a 4.9 percent jump in August same-stores among franchisees, which own approximately half of the chain’s locations. So far this year, same-store franchise restaurant sales are up 5.6 percent. Fazoli’s franchisees also reported a 2.8 percent increase in guest counts and check averages were up 2.1 percent. For the year, traffic is up 1.9 percent and check average is up 2.5 percent. Fazoli’s attributes the growth to a series of limited time offers, the implementation of table service and a new restaurant design.

McAlister’s Deli signed an agreement with existing franchise group Southern Deli Holdings, LLC to open 10 additional locations throughout North Carolina, South Carolina, Colorado and Wyoming. Three of these locations will open by the end of the year. Additionally, Southern Deli Holdings recently acquired seven existing locations in St. Louis and its development commitments will result in two new restaurants per year over the next five years. Southern Deli Holdings operates 47 locations.
