Colorado-Based Dealer Acquires Foodservice Design Firm 
Tundra Restaurant Supply, a Boulder, Colo.-based foodservice equipment and supplies dealer and parts distributor, has acquired Superior Commercial Kitchens, Inc., a foodservice design firm located in the same city.

IHOP President Birch to Step Down 
Jean M. Birch, president of IHOP, will step down from his post, leaving parent company DineEquity effective Aug. 27, 2012. As a result, DineEquity, which also owns Applebee’s, has initiated a search for a new president for its IHOP chain.
The Passing of William “Bill” Roemke 
William “Bill” Roemke, a dealer sales rep with Strategic Equipment and Supply Corp. in Knoxville, Tenn., passed away on July 18. He was 53-years old.
3Wire Opens New Las Vegas Distribution Center 
3Wire opened a distribution center in Las Vegas. One of eight 3Wire facilities, the new distribution center features a complete storefront, which allows foodservice managers to pick up their parts the same day.

Number of Restaurants on the Rise 
The number of U.S. restaurants grew by 0.5 percent between the spring of 2012 and the same time frame in 2011, according to the most recent restaurant census conducted by The NPD Group. Total restaurant units reached 592,960, an increase of 2,872 units and the first positive change since 2009.
