Foodservice Equipment and Supplies Sales Increase in First Quarter

MAFSI reports overall foodservice equipment and supplies sales have been increasing at an average annual rate of 4.8 percent for the past 6 years.

Sales of foodservice equipment and supplies increased by 4.8 percent during the first quarter of 2016, according to the Manufacturers' Agents Association for the Foodservice Industry. Looking ahead to the second quarter of 2016 reps project a 4.6 percent increase in sales, per The MAFSI Business Barometer.

First quarter sales increases by region include: 5.5 percent in the West, 5.3 percent in the North, 5.1 percent in the South, 4.5 percent in the Midwest and 1.5 percent in Canada, according to MAFSI. By product type, tabletop sales increased 5.1 percent, foodservice equipment and furniture sales increased 4.8 percent and sales of supplies grew by 4.2 percent in the first quarter.

In addition, 57 percent of reps report they are quoting more; only 10 percent report a decline in quoting activity. Also, 49 percent of reps report increased consultant activity, 44 percent report their consultant-related activity is consistent with the previous quarter and only 7 percent report a decline in consultant activity.
