Foodservice Equipment and Supplies Sales Increase 3.1 Percent in the Second Quarter

MAFSI Business Barometer points to strong third quarter. 

Sales of foodservice equipment and supplies increased 3.3 percent in the second quarter of 2014, according to the latest data from the Manufacturers' Agents Association for the Foodservice Industry (MAFSI). This represents a .2 percent decline from the first quarter, according to the MAFSI Business Barometer. Despite this slight decline, MAFSI reps forecast a 5.7 percent gain for the third quarter of 2014. Reps report increases in quoting, up 56 percent and consulting, up 47 percent.

As in the first quarter, sales results varied greatly by region, with the Northeast posting a 1.2 percent decline in sales. In contrast, second quarter sales in the South increased 5.5 percent, Canada 3.9 percent, the West 3.8 percent, and the Midwest 3.5 percent.

Overall sales in North America increased 4.5 percent for supplies, 3.8 percent for tabletop, 2.9 percent equipment and 2.7 percent in furnishings. In the Northeast, equipment and tabletop sales declined 2 percent and 0.1 percent, respectively. Equipment sales increased 5.9 percent in the South, supplies 8.3 percent in the West and furnishings 10.0 percent in Canada.
