Chain Operating Report for Jan. 12

Six restaurant chains announced operating results in the past week.

AFC Enterprises, Inc. (NASDAQ:AFCE - News), the franchisor and operator of Popeyes restaurants, reported global same-store sales increased 6 percent for its fourth quarter, ending Dec. 26, 2010. For the fiscal year 2010, global same-store sales increased 2.6 percent compared to a 0.7 percent increase in 2009, according to a company release.

Beautiful Brands International (BBI) reached an agreement with Emirates Associated Business Group (EABG) to open nearly 100 Dixie Cream Donut Company restaurants in the nations of Iraq, United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Syria and Qatar.

For its third fiscal quarter for 2011, Benihana Inc. (NASDAQ:BNHNA - News), reported total restaurant sales increased 3.6 percent to $72.6 million, up from $70.1 million in the same period in 2010. Company-wide comparable restaurant sales increased 4.4 percent, representing the fourth consecutive quarter of comparable restaurant sales increases. By concept, comparable restaurant sales increased 7.3 percent at Benihana Teppanyaki, but decreased 1.5 percent at RA Sushi and 1.1 percent at Haru.

For its second fiscal quarter ending Nov. 30, 2010, Ruby Tuesday, Inc. (NYSE:RT - News) reported company-owned same-store sales increased 4.2 percent.

Red Robin Gourmet Burgers, Inc. opened a restaurant in Bowie, Md.

Ruth's Hospitality Group, Inc., (Nasdaq:RUTH - News) reported preliminary unaudited sales results for its fourth quarter, which ended on Dec. 26, 2010. Company-owned restaurant sales, excluding franchise and other income, increased 8.0 percent to $90.4 million for the fourth quarter of 2010 up from $83.8 million for the fourth quarter of 2009. Company-owned comparable restaurant sales for Ruth's Chris Steak House increased 9.2 percent. Approximately 1.6 percent of the comparable result is attributable to additional restaurants being open on Thanksgiving Day this year. Ruth's Hospitality also noted that private dining sales grew approximately 16 percent in the fourth quarter compared to last year. Company-owned comparable restaurant sales for Mitchell's Fish Market decreased 2.2 percent.
