Chain Operating Report for Sept. 26, 2012

Six chain restaurant operators continue their expansion plans both domestically and internationally by adding new franchisees to their networks.

Barberitos Franchising, Inc. opened a location in Asheville, N.C., its 29th unit system wide.

Burger 21, a fast-casual concept founded by the owners of The Melting Pot Restaurants, Inc., announced today that it plans to target several key territories in South Florida, including Boca Raton, Fort Lauderdale and Aventura, for franchise-based expansion.

Baskin-Robbins announced plans to expand in the California markets of Pleasanton and Stockton. The company is seeking franchisees for these two markets. Currently, Baskin-Robbins operates more than 450 restaurants across California.

Chili's Bar & Grill opened its first location in San Jose, Costa Rica. A part of Brinker International, there are more than 260 Chili's restaurants outside the United States in 32 countries and 2 territories, according to a company release.

Denver-based Garbanzo Mediterranean Grill, a fast-casual restaurant concept offering Mediterranean fare, has awarded franchise development rights to its first New Jersey franchisee. Owned by Robert Rosenfeld, a restaurant operator with experience in running franchised concepts, Garjersey, LLC has the rights to develop up to 27 Garbanzo locations in the northern and central New Jersey area and plans to open its first unit in early 2013.

Frozen yogurt chain Red Mango opened a location in Woodlands, Texas, its 200th restaurant system wide.

Zaxby's opened a second location in Greer, S.C.
